Cooper Farms is currently seeking an Assistant Purchasing Manager to join our team in Fort Recovery.

The primary goal of this position is to support the strategic procurement and inventory management of grain and feed ingredients for multiple feed mills.

SHIFT HOURS: This is a Monday through Friday 1st shift salary role

STARTING RATE: Commensurate with experience

ADDITIONAL PAY: Monthly and year-end profit-sharing bonuses (dependent upon company performance)

Job Functions:

  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and delivery terms with feed ingredient vendors and energy and utility vendors to ensure competitive prices and guarantee supply
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and feed/livestock industry associations
  • Find adequate sourcing for alternate ingredients that could formulate into our feeds and monitor market trends, price fluctuations and supplier performance to optimize purchasing decisions
  • Analyze purchase orders, invoices, and supplier agreements for accuracy, and approve accordingly
  • Provide guidance and support for daily and weekly negotiations performed by members of the purchasing team
  • Work with Quality Control staff in monitoring ingredients and feed quality so needs of livestock and economics are considered in any changes made
  • Understand grain accounting practices and provide guidance and support on record keeping related to grain procurement
  • Support miscellaneous outside feed sales
  • Understand inventory reporting processes and review results regularly with stakeholders to support precise inventory practices
  • Regularly review a rotation of ingredient and supplier pricing, to ensure purchasing team is providing the best value for quality feed ingredients
  • Be a member of the hedging team and participate in weekly hedging activities
Requirements
  • Preferred candidates will hold a degree in agribusiness, supply chain management, business administration or related field with 3 years of directly related experience. (Candidates with substantial related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree)
  • Solid understanding of grain markets, and commodity trading is preferred
  • Strong procurement and negotiation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as attention to detail are vital to this role
