Cooper Farms is currently seeking a Food Safety Manager to join our team in Van Wert.
The primary objective of this position is to develop and implement a system that assures all Cooper Product meets or exceeds customer expectations. They will also provide the leadership to implement programs and procedures that meet or exceed all governmental regulations.
SHIFT HOURS: Monday through Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
STARTING SALARY: From $73,000/year
PERKS: Monthly and year-end profit-sharing bonuses (dependent upon company performance)
Job Functions:
- Develop practices and procedures to ensure the wholesomeness and integrity of all Cooper Farms products
- Implement all environmental sampling programs and document results
- Conduct all microbiological testing as required and share results with appropriate managers to ensure corrective actions when necessary
- Maintain a quality control system to protect against recalls and enable quick and effective ways to trace products produced under the Cooper Farms name
- Maintain a Standard Operating Procedure auditing program
- Ensure HACCP and SSOP practice and procedures are effective and meet USDA requirements
- Maintain good relationships with the USDA; Conduct regular meetings with the USDA to improve communications
- Implement proper auditing procedures to make sure programs for HACCP, Product Specifications, and Standard Operating Procedures are all effective and efficient to comply with all federal regulations as well as GFSI standards for BRC
- Make suggestions to improve the activities of the sanitation department
- Ensure that all proposed labels, products, and operating procedures are consistent and comply with USDA regulations, as well as manage the USDA product-pull program
- Address all customer complaints dealing with food safety issues; Work with QA Supervisors and the production team to implement any necessary changes
- Keep company personnel updated on USDA and industry trends through trade organizations and a network or counterparts from other companies
- Provide leadership and supervision to 3rd shift QA Supervisor and technicians, as well as the Compliance Supervisor
- Make recommendations to SLT or Director of Processing on marginal quality products
Requirements - Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in food science, business management or related areas and at least three years of experience in the quality services area (Previous experience may be considered in lieu of education)
- Strong quality and food safety knowledge and have experience and background in the areas of meat and/or poultry processing
- Excellent people skills, the ability to lead a team toward a common goal
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Basic computer knowledge
